Conférence : The concept of emerging infectious disease revisited and its impacts on the global governance in health by Marcia Grisotti (Associate Professor of Sociology and Political Sciences Department, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brasil).

 

Prof. Marcia Grisotti will share her fieldwork on emerging infectious diseases (e.g. the the worm Angiostrongylus costaricensis parasitizing land snails and humans in Southern Brazil) and show how this concept is a sociocultural (popular and medical) construction although the parasites and vectors being real. She will emphasize the roles that socio-economic and cultural changes play on the emergence of diseases and stress the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in order to fully understand and respond to theses diseases.
